Welcome to Ranked Choice Voting Albany! We are a grassroots, nonpartisan movement trying to bring a better and more representative way of voting to the city of Albany. We are an inclusive group with diverse viewpoints and identities that have come together across difference to make our city a better place.

Despite being the capital of New York state, Albany consistently sees low turnout and voter engagement, with uncompetitive general elections and the potential for vote splitting in more competitive primaries.

Ranked Choice Voting would give us all more voice in city elections. Discover how it can make our elections fairer, more inclusive, and representative of our diverse community. It's a better way to vote that lets everyone vote for their favorite candidate while still having a backup choice, and it incentivizes candidates to speak to the needs of the entire community. 

RCV is a simple upgrade to the way we vote: 

• Step 1: Rank the candidates from your favorite to your least favorite.
• Step 2: If one candidate gets more than 50% of the vote outright, they win!
• Step 3: If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote outright, the last place candidate is removed and everyone who voted for them gets their votes moved to their second favorite choice.  Repeat this process until someone has more than 50% support!
